Anonymous links stay alive as long as they're used — every visit extends them by another 90 days. Links created via the API are permanent by default, and short codes use an alphabet without O, 0, I and l so they can't be misread.

Why a QRL link and not any shortener?

A generic shortener gives you a short address and nothing else. Behind every QRL link sits a routing engine, real-time analytics, a REST API and enterprise controls: you can see who clicked, from where and on what device, change the destination without changing the link (on Business), and automate everything programmatically.

How long does a free link live?

The rule is simple: anonymous portal links expire after 90 days of inactivity, but every visit extends them by another 90 — an actively used link effectively lives forever. API-created links are permanent by default. This isn't a trial: free is our growth engine.
